Chairman: Carrie Purtell

PAMTA membership is exclusively available through our national organization membership only: MTNA

By joining MTNA, you will automatically then become a member of our state organization: ISMTA,
and PAMTA, our local organization.

Although there is a breakdown in dues between the three organization levels, local or state membership exclusively is not
permissible
. You must join the MTNA in order to gain local and state membership.

We encourage members to utilize this web site to its full capacity to access information and forms pertinent to participation in
PAMTA activities. If you need a PAMTA Yearbook or Handbook, please contact our Membership Chairman listed above.
Thank you.

The member is the most important element of our organization; the member is the most important person in our meeting.

All PAMTA members should enjoy the privileges and accept the responsibilities that come with membership. These privileges
and responsibilities are defined in our by-laws.

Members should remember that each has an obligation to voice constructive ideas or criticism, to present information they
may have on the subject under discussion. Only when the member does this will the organization be able to vote intelligently
on issues. Whatever the organization decides to accept or reject affects
each member.

As a PAMTA member, you are expected to uphold and support the decisions of the majority and assist in carrying it out.

In general, as a PAMTA member, you will be expected to...

  • Respect and abide by the objects, policies and rules of our organization;
  • Know PAMTA's basic structure, policies, and manor of operation;
  • Ppay your dues promptly;
  • Be willing to hold office if elected, and serve on committees if appointed;
  • Be sensitive to the feelings of your fellow members; credit them with the best possible motives for their actions.
  • Be comfortable with the basic rules used to conduct the business.
  • Attend and participate in meetings;
  • Be on time so your entrance will not distract the assembly; the president will begin on time;
  • Pay attention with respect - don't talk to your neighbor while someone is addressing the group as a whole;
  • Don't talk across the room or make 'dry', unconstructive comments;
  • Address all remarks to the chairman;
  • Make motions to bring business before the assembly beginning with the words,"I move..."
  • Have opportunity to speak first to the motion you have made;
  • Speak loudly enough to be heard by all the assembly;
  • Discuss only the immediately pending question;
  • Know what you're voting on - ask the presiding officer if it isn't clear;
  • Sit near the front if you are to give a report;
  • Help get pending questions off the floor by moving to:
    • refer to a committee, if you need more information;
    • postpone indefinitely, if you want to avoid a direct vote on the motion, or to a later time,
       when you want everyone to think about it before taking action;
    • be courteous by advising the presiding officer - in advance -of your intent to introduce new
      business in the meeting, if possible.

The success of a meeting - of our organization - depends on the ability of the members to make logical, practical
decisions. Although the chair (presiding officer) conducts the meeting, the members make the decisions. Again, it is
important for members to know the by-laws and rules of our organization.

Members have the right to participate at any place in the order of business; however, what you say or do
must be related to the pending business.  PAMTA can be only as strong as the participation of its most important element . . . YOU!
